Types of Optic Fiber Cables
The fiber optic cables are divided into several categories:
- According to the usage environment:
- - indoor (inside the buildings)
- universal (indoor and outdoor installations)
- outdoor (outside the buildings)
- special (various protective insulations against e.g. the aggressive environment)
- Multimode Cables until 2 km:
- - 62.5/125 – larger core, multiple modes, smaller bandwidth
- 50/125 – smaller core diameter, lesser number of modes, higher bandwidth
- Single-Mode (Monomode) Cables over 2 km:
- - 62.5/125 – larger core, multiple modes, smaller bandwidth
